Welcome to the Blogging Week
by Ben Lambert and Naseem Khuri on March 21, 2008 in Eight-Track's Revenge
Well, this is our first blog. We’re new to this whole world, so we don’t really know what we’re doing. For example, Naseem just discovered that if you hold the FN button on your Mac and then hit ‘delete’, it actually deletes forward. Can you believe it?! And Ben still has 8 tracks, a Beta VCR, a cotton gin and knickers.
But we like music, and we assume some of you do too.
The problem is, we’re not very funny. At least on purpose. And we’re not sure if that’s a criteria for blogging but we hear it is. I mean, the other Citizen blogs about poverty, disastrous education systems and international crises are a hoot!
Anyway, in our attempt to talk about music and to be funny, we thought we’d share with you some of the other names we considered before settling on “8 Track’s Revenge.” We realized that we couldn’t go with most of these because they relate to mid-nineties R&B groups, and as much as we love songs with spoken word breakdowns featuring a large man with eight testicles begging for his baby back (we’ll tell you about more of the stuff we like later), we figured we couldn’t devote a whole blog to the subject. At least not now. Very well then:
Snoop Bloggy Blog
Blogz II Men
Bel Blog Devoe
SWB (Sisters with Blog)
Can’t You Hear Me Blogging?
Bohemian Blogsody
Salt n Blogga
Oh What A Feeling When You’re Blogging on the Ceiling
Mookie Blaylock
ZZ Blog
The Foghat of War
Color Me Blog
Blog Sabbath
Iron and Wine Maiden
Judith Light Orchestra (inspired directly by Kathleen Turner Overdrive)
Thomas Jefferson Airplane
Lisa Turtle
On second thought, none of these are very funny. We’re sorry. But we settled on 8 Track’s Revenge, a salute to the late, great medium of our yesteryears. Considering it comes from the olden days of pet rocks and Steve Guttenberg movies, we’ll probably make some reference to some classic artists. And considering we firmly believe it will travel the journey of everything that was once respectable, out of fashion and then cool among hipsters many years later (e.g., cuffs on jeans), we’ll probably talk about stuff among the living that we think is worth listening to.
Maybe we’ll get funnier. But probably not. You however will be exposed to both of our musical fashions and stylings, as well as those of other people who believe Taylor Dayne is in fact the greatest singer of the 90’s. Stay tuned!
