About
The Citizen is the independent and free biweekly newspaper of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and is the institution’s most frequent publication. Completely managed by graduate students enrolled in one of the Harvard Kennedy School’s full-time degree programs, the Citizen’s editorial and business decisions are all made absent interference or approval from members of the School’s administration. As part of its mission to serve as a publication for the entire Kennedy School community, the Citizen regularly features contributions from faculty, staff, joint-degree students and occasional op-eds from the Harvard Kennedy School Dean, David Ellwood.
The Citizen is published every other Wednesday during the Fall and Spring terms, except during examination periods and vacations. In addition to the print edition of the newspaper, which is distributed throughout the campus, the online edition contains additional features including extended reporting, interview clips, video and exclusive blogs.
The Citizen welcomes all contributions, including letters, op-eds, photographs and graphic art, which can be submitted electronically to one of the individual editors or to ksgcitizen@gmail.com . All submissions become property of the Citizen. Because the Citizen receives more letters and columns than available space can accommodate, not all submissions can be acknowledged or printed. Letters should not be longer than 200 words and must include the name and contact information of the author. Columns should be 600-800 words long. The Citizen reserves the right to edit all material.
Editorials without a byline represent the views of the Citizen’s editorial board. Any other letter, column or cartoon is the work of the attributed author and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Citizen .
The Citizen distributes all of its content free of charge thanks to generous support from the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics & Public Policy, the Harvard Kennedy School Office of Degree Programs and the Kennedy School Student Government. It also accepts donations from individual supporters. To make a gift, please contact Tina Chong, Editor-in-Chief at tina_chong@ksg09.harvard.edu.
